Vacancy

Czechia and the Netherlands share excellent multilateral relations, as active members of the European Union and NATO, and bilateral relations, based on mutual respect, constructive engagement and shared values. Next to cooperation in the fields of defence and energy transition, promotion of human rights and cultural exchanges, sustainable economic development is an important part of the daily work of the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Prague.

Within the economic activities of the embassy, opportunities in high tech/smart industry and manufacturing and digital transitions shape our priorities. The economic team of the embassy works on strengthening innovative power and digitalization, as well as on developing high tech ecosystems in Czechia with the goal to further benefit Dutch and Czech sustainable economic growth and business interests, as well as long term EU economic and security priorities such as competitiveness & strategic autonomy.

The embassy seeks a senior policy officer with a proven record in economics, innovation and trade promotion, who will advise on the further development of high tech ecosystems in Czechia, identify opportunities for industry, provide hands-on support to embassy management to shape and implement its economic agenda – including the organisation of events-, and act as a matchmaker for companies and government stakeholders in the Netherlands and Czechia. The officer will serve as the focal point for high tech industry.

The candidate we are looking for:

· is knowledgeable about developments in the high tech industry sectors

· understands and preferably has experience with strengthening innovative power in industry and advising on policy issues in this field

· identifies opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation both in the public and private sector

· shows a high level of understanding of the dynamics and trends of international and national trade, industry and economics

· is eager to assist Dutch companies who wish to become active in Czechia

· has experience in creating and capitalising on opportunities

· has strong analytical skills and is capable of producing relevant economic reporting

· is an energetic self-starter and goal-getter

· works independently and with a considerable level of seniority, and is at the same time a great team player

· is a good networker who is hands-on and creative in e.g. organising visits, trade missions, match-making and reporting

· is well-organised with an open and learning mindset; pro-active, service minded, flexible, stress resistant

· feels responsible for and has pride in their work

· knows when and how to address management, colleagues, external partners in order to complete the job successfully

SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The vacancy is a temporary two year position (2026-2027).

TASKS

  • Policy and sector-specific advice; hands-on organisational activities.
  • Identify and advise on developments in high tech industry and innovation, including media monitoring and outreach to relevant public and private stakeholders
  • Facilitate partnerships and collaborations between the embassy and local organisations to promote technology transfer and innovation, and improve policies
  • Build and maintain constructive working relations with Dutch and Czech business, government and academic stakeholders.
  • Raise awareness of opportunities in high tech/smart industry for Dutch public and private stakeholders, including academic institutions and industry associations
  • Organize bilateral visits for political, business and/or civil service delegations
  • Implement the embassy’s economic diplomacy agenda, including the Czech-Dutch Action Agenda for the Industry and its spin-off initiatives. Monitor and guard progress of stakeholder processes. Help shape the economic agenda of the embassy.
  • Build relevant networks, make connections and take action to further embassy goals
  • Brief the management on progress and issues that occur
  • Handle trade questions from Dutch business sector
  • Prepare speeches and background information
  • contribute to economic and EU reporting, as well as produce online content.
  • Independently execute events from A to Z
  • Analyse and report on economic developments and policy in Czechia

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

· required level of education: relevant academic level

· knowledge of and experience in the high tech/smart industry sector

· communication skills vis-à-vis third parties, including at senior level

· proven experience in logistical and organisational tasks

· strong presentation, speaking and written skills

· general understanding of the Czech public administration and its working methods

· skilled in Windows-driven MS Office programs such as Word and Excel, Outlook, as well as Canva to create visually appealing graphics, presentations, and social media content (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram)

· very good command of the Czech language (verbally and written level C2)

· good command (verbally and written) of the English language, level B2-C1 (knowledge of the Dutch language is a plus)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The team of the Netherlands embassy in Prague consists of 13 employees (in total 11.5 FTE) of which 3 diplomats and 10 local employees. Our focus is on economic diplomacy and bilateral and EU cooperation. We work as one team, meaning that expat and local colleagues collaborate together to achieve embassy goals.
