About the role

We're looking for a technical leader to drive backend development of a British fintech platform and build a strong engineering team around it. You'll be the main architect of technical decisions, the bridge between product and engineering, and the mentor others rely on.

This role is for someone who wants to genuinely shape both the product and the team – not just write code, but lead, plan, and own outcomes.

What you will be doing

• Technical leadership of the backend team – architectural decisions, standards, and best practices

• Design and oversee development of the fintech platform (PHP 8.4 + Symfony 7.4, Node.js + TypeScript)
• Collaborate with the product team to translate complex requirements into clean software design
• Mentor and develop engineers on the team; lead code reviews
• Own system stability, scalability, and cybersecurity
• Co-author an AI agentic platform and other smart solutions
• Make informed calls on technical debt, development priorities, and infrastructure investments

Who we are looking for

• Proven experience leading an engineering team, or a senior role with de facto tech lead responsibilities
• Deep knowledge of backend development and system design
• Experience building in a regulated environment (fintech or financial sector strongly preferred)
• Ability to contextualize demanding product requirements within realistic technical constraints
• Strong communication skills – technical and interpersonal, in Czech and English
• Ownership mindset across code quality, security, operations, and team culture
