At UCT, the primary purpose of the IT Project Manager role is to lead, oversee, and ensure the successful delivery and management of single or multiple projects. The IT Project Manager must deliver projects within defined scope, quality, schedule, and budget expectations. These factors may be clearly defined or may require dynamic management to deliver business valuet.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership and motivation to project team members throughout the project life cycle and confer with project staff to outline a work plan.
• Analyze project proposals to determine timeframe, funding limitations, and the appropriate process for accomplishing projects.
• Identify and schedule project deliverables, milestones, required activities, and tasks.
• Implement a project communication plan.
• Establish a work plan and staffing for project activities, iterations, or phases, and arrange for recruitment or assignment of project personnel.
• Perform risk assessment and implement mitigation plans.
• Monitor project activities, ensuring the currency, quality, and integrity of information while providing consistency in content and “look and feel” across the organization.
• Ensure project goals are achieved and deliver expected business value.
• Assign duties and responsibilities to project personnel and define the scope of their authority.
• Direct and coordinate the activities of project personnel to ensure projects progress on schedule and within budget.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to lead and motivate others; ability to empathize and knowledge of personality types.
• Proven experience with project management methodologies, such as Project Management Institute standards and/or Agile/Scrum approaches.
• Sensitivity to working in a political environment and to interacting with senior leadership.
• Knowledge of project planning and resource tracking tools, such as MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, or similar tools.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to manage customer expectations.
• Distinctive blend of business, IT, financial, and communication skills. This blend is vital because this is a highly visible position with substantial impact.
• Experience leading team members in an environment where this role may not directly control resources.
• Knowledge and understanding of business needs, with the ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence.
• Good understanding of current and emerging technologies and how other enterprises are using them to drive digital business.
• Ability to develop and execute a project resource plan that ensures the right people are in the right place, doing the right things at the right time.

Educational/Certification Requirement:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, project management, general business management, or a related field. Equivalent IT experience may be considered.
• Project management training and certification, such as PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile/Scrum certification, is desirable.

Experience Requirement:

Work Experience:

• Three or more years of IT experience, with an understanding of and commitment to business problem-solving.
• Minimum of three years of demonstrated competency in a project management role involving the execution of multiple projects or a large project.
• Experience leading a project team.
• Experience using “soft skills” or “people skills” to build relationships and ensure collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
• Advanced level of English (daily communication in English).
