About T-Labs T-Labs, Deutsche Telekom’s innovation unit, explores technologies shaping the future of connectivity and digital infrastructure. We translate emerging technologies into future telecom capabilities. We are looking for an experienced leader to drive our research area on future communication and compute infrastructures.

Your mission As Research Area Lead, you will shape Deutsche Telekom’s long-term technology perspective on next-generation communication and compute systems. You will drive research and strategic exploration in areas such as:

• AI-native 6G architectures

• Adaptive and intelligent radio systems

• Optical transport and photonic interconnects

• Communication-compute convergence

• AI/HPC infrastructure

• Heterogeneous and distributed compute architectures

You will define the research agenda, drive impactful collaborations with academia and industry partners and ensure research outcomes influence future network design and technology strategy.

Your responsibilities

• Define and evolve the research agenda for future communication and compute infrastructures 

• Explore novel architectures and emerging technology paradigms 

• Develop prototypes, experiments, and technology demonstrators 

• Drive strategic technology assessments and foresight activities 

• Collaborate with leading universities, research institutes, startups, hyperscalers and industry partners 

• Represent Deutsche Telekom in strategic research ecosystems and industry initiatives 

• Translate research findings into actionable recommendations for future network and infrastructure strategies 

• Contribute to intellectual property generation, publications and thought leadership 

• Connect research outcomes with future telecom platform evolution and operational realities 

What you bring

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in telecommunications, computer science, electrical engineering, physics or a related field 

• Deep expertise in at least several of the following areas: 

  • wireless communication systems 

  • optical networking / photonics 

  • AI infrastructure 

  • distributed systems 

  • HPC architectures 

  • compute-network convergence 

  • future internet architectures 

• Strong systems-thinking and architectural mindset 

• Experience in applied research, advanced prototyping or strategic technology development 

• Ability to bridge research, engineering and business strategy 

• Strong external network in academia and/or industry ecosystems 

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills 

• Curiosity, strategic thinking, and passion for future technologies
