Description of the Position

The program coordinator (PC) is a full-time position. PC is responsible for the operations of the CET Film Production at FAMU program, in which students from US universities spend a semester in Prague studying Film Production at FAMU. The PC may also be responsible for short-term programs that run during the semester and in the summer.

Main tasks:

  • support students in various aspects of their study abroad experience
  • coordinate with FAMU (Film and TV School in Prague) on various organizational aspects of the program
  • facilitate academic and cultural understanding of the Czech context
  • design and implement engaging extra-curricular activities and excursions

Other important aspects of the position:

  • PC must be prepared to travel for a few weekend excursions, including internationally
  • PC writes program-related emails and reports, handles various on-site tasks and emergencies, and hosts US faculty visitors
  • Candidates are advised that this is a time-consuming, challenging position since one of the main responsibilities of the PC is to assist students in their adjustment to a new culture and help them to maximize their learning opportunities. The successful candidate will have outstanding people skills and will thoroughly enjoy working with students.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Program coordination:

  • Work closely with FAMU, its staff and faculty, to coordinate the core program courses
  • Help plan and implement semester schedule, activities, and study trips
  • Handle appropriated funds and work according to a budget
  • Plan and participate at the orientation sessions and other program activities
  • Maintain office hours and meet frequently with students to serve their needs

Serve as Liaison

  • Serve as language and cultural resource to students
  • Assist students as they adjust to life in the Czech Republic
  • Communicate regularly with CET's head office in Washington DC on all issues relating to the programs
  • Respond in an appropriate and effective manner in stressful situations
  • Support the Prague team in upholding all CET's policies

Requirements, In Order Of Priority

  • MA in one of the respective fields: Background in film production and/or humanities and/or social sciences (film or cultural studies, art history, international relations, political science, entrepreneurship, law, etc.)
  • BA will be considered only if the candidate has work experience relevant to the position
  • Fluency in English and Czech is required
  • Be a legal resident of the Czech Republic or have the right to work legally in the Czech Republic. CET does not provide work visa.
  • Ability to remain calm and project authority during crises or stressful situations
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral communication and writing skills
  • Experience with intercultural communication and collaboration, sensitivity to cultural differences and student needs
  • Willingness to wear different hats and maintain flexibility toward program responsibilities
  • Background in working with American students or studying at a US university (not required but preferred)
  • Undergraduate teaching, advising, or mentoring experience (not required but preferred)
