The position holder is responsible for all Accounting, Tax & Governance related activities in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. The position holder ensures accurate and complete compilation and timely submission of financial statements and tax filings. She / he ensures methodological and process related compliance to local regulations and internal policies with respect to Accounting and Tax, and acts as first contact for internal and external auditors and tax advisors.

Moreover, she / he is responsible for driving digitalization and automation, as well as process optimization and harmonization, to ensure efficient set up of the relevant processes and systems.

The leadership competence is an essential part of the skill set. The policy holder leads, motivates, develops and retain the allocated employees.

Accounting Processes:

Steer processes and methods in the areas of accounts payable (AP) and receivable (AR), asset accounting, revenues and cost accounting. Strive for high level of automation by permanent development of the Accounting system, while coordinating the business requirements, test resources and developers. Investigate and ensure implementation of state-of-the art processes and systems in the AP/ AR area. Secure reconciliation and confirmations of balances with the counterparties within the Mercedes-Benz Group as well as with significant external business partners.

Tax:

Optimize tax duties paid within the tax laws/requirements, including income tax and deferred tax planning and calculation, statements and reports as well as handling of other taxes (e.g. VAT, motor vehicle tax, withholding tax).

Follow-up tax issues and ensure their correct implementation in the company. Monitor publications for accounting and tax issues, evaluate implications and communicate issues to other departments. Ensure transfer pricing documentation for Mercedes-Benz Group and tax authorities.

Organize regular information exchange with tax advisors and ensure correct and efficient tax process in the company.

Manage communication with tax offices and other state bodies regarding company issues.

Governance (Internal Control System & Procurement):

Assess the transactional, operational and system risks on a regular basis. Perform and document the ICS checks in the areas of accounting, financial reporting, cash management and cash disbursement. Implement and maintain risk mitigating measures and solutions for potential ICS deficiencies and audit findings.

Coordinate with stakeholders to align on the business requirements, manage test resources and developers for the procurement system with the aim to achieve a high level of automation while ensuring compliance with procurement related policies and guidelines.

Quality & Innovation:

Drive execution of Accounting and Tax function meeting high quality standards meeting the requirements and expectations set for financial reporting within the Mercedes-Benz Group, local tax authorities, statutory auditor as well as other regulatory institutions (national bank, statistical office etc.). Lead continuous innovation initiatives/projects in optimizing of organizational structures, business processes and IT system landscape in CZ&SK&HU in order to improve efficiency especially through high automation and digitalization of transactional processes, development of stable and robust interfaces between business and accounting systems as well as to meet cost improvement targets. Ensure that operational performance is consistently measured and managed.

Compliance:

Assess the integrity and compliance risks on regular basis. Implement and maintain relevant components of compliance management system in order to control and mitigate identified risks.

By the means of role model and ton from the top communication support a sustainable compliance environment and culture. Implement and apply relevant policies, guidelines and processes within area of responsibility. Take responsibility and support adequate reaction to disciplinary measures in case of compliance failures / gaps.

Leadership:

Lead, motivate, empower, develop and retain allocated employees by target agreements and performance evaluations on the basis of the mission statement and within the Leadership principles. Ensure target-oriented internal communication and task related qualification in the relevant business areas as well as regarding the requirements of Compliance. Ensure the achievement of agreed targets. Promote diversity and inclusion and foster a culture of pride, passion and innovation. Qualification

Qualification & Work experience

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in accounting and finance, with at least 4 years in a leadership role. Experience in multinational environment is a plus.
  • Very good knowledge of local CZ accounting principles and tax regulations, basic knowledge of SK and HU accounting principles and tax regulations. Knowledge of IFRS desirable.
  • Experience with CIC software desirable.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency in English and either Czech or Slovak languages, basic knowledge of Hungarian is a plus.
